public art project
The UNITY Project is a sustainable public art installation in community center of the city of Elk Grove, CA.
The installation will consist of innovative LEED gold art designs crafted with recycled, local materials.
public art project
The UNITY Project is a sustainable public hanging art installation that will be placed in the Lobby of the Elkgrove Community/Veteran’s center.
1000 recycled and transparent polymer/glass hands will hang from the ceiling like prisms.
The hands will be placed on a custom metal grid structure and hang in a 10 foot x 14 foot cube.
sign design
The hands will be molded at Ben Phipps Studio using recycled optical glass and polymer. 6 different hand molds will be created each a different letter in the sign language alphabet, U, N, I, T, Y plus an additional standard hand.
The work will represent a multicultural theme. The center of the cube will be made from multi-colored hands creating a visual globe within the perfect grid, the globe representing our planet.
The center will be lit by LEDs at night highlighting the visual perception of the globe hanging in space.
art by day & night
The art would hang in daylight like prisms, projecting subtle colored shadows across the ground or walls.
By night, the LED illuminated globe would create a centerpiece as a brilliant sustainable and multicultural light beacon.
sign design
Our proposal is to create a modular design to highlight the windows on both sides of the lobby (facing North and South).
Sculpture containing transparent art and light will reflect and interact with the natural and artificial lighting.
The project incorporates symbols of diversity and community with sign language sculptures representing the earth, and the worlds cultures, races and ages.
